Infrastructures of Urban Welfare | StadsSalonsUrbains 2025

The first scenario explored by the project has a time horizon of ten years. In such a lapse of time, we assume the demographic trend of Brussels to stay the same. This scenario assumes such an increased population will overall determine an increased pressure on the built and non built fabric of the city, therefore accentuating environmental needs and societal challenges, although in a very gradual way. Following these changes, we adress welfare infrastructures as spaces that will attempt to complete existing forms of welfare and assure the protection of existing resources. We build upon this scenario through several case-study. The first one is regarding the Marais Wiels and its Metropole building. We further develop our research through studying sites such as Neerpede, Park Ouest, Friche Josaphat and Schaerbeek Formation.
